NIIMBL stakeholders develop some of the most revolutionary solutions in healthcare today.  Possible career opportunities are limited to your imagination.  What does your future in biopharmaceutical manufacturing look like?  Come join us for an exclusive virtual tour inside our member organizations.


You will eXperience

Listen:  Virtual host facility presentations to provide an overview of the organization, the role of federal agencies, why does it exist, why it matters to you, personally, and a few examples of existing entry-level jobs.

Learn:  What can you do now to prepare for working in biopharmaceuticals?

See:  Virtually tour the facility to see what the work environment is like.

Experience:  Participate in simulated work activities with host site employees.

Host Organizations include large industry, small to medium industry or start-ups, and federal agencies.  


Purpose

The purpose of this program is to connect African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino(a), and Native American students interested in the biopharmaceutical sector with professionals in the industry and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) to provide professional development and/or career opportunities.  Biopharmaceutical jobs can range from working in a laboratory, research, manufacturing, data analysis, federal regulations, and project management.


Learning Goals

  • Create an awareness of the different types of jobs and careers within the biopharmaceutical manufacturing space through virtual  experiences
  • Meet employees at different types of organizations and hear “how I got to this job” stories
  • Encourage the students to pursue STEM education that leads to internships and employment in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Exposure to 3+ roles at sites that are critical to the delivery of site goals/products. 3+ sites across the product development lifecycle
  • Technical writing and application development/reflection
  • Each student to develop a personal brand statement (program start/onboarding) and increase competency/practice execution


Eligibility Criteria

  • Freshman or Sophomore students from HBCUs and historically underrepresented minority-serving institutions, and African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino(a), and Native American students at NIIMBL member academic institutions with an interest in STEM
  • Existing NSBE members are encouraged to apply
  • Must be a demonstrated leader and be able to express those leadership qualities 
  • Participation is limited to students living within the United States
  • Commitment to sharing your eXperience with your peers


Timeline

Applications must be submitted by January 31, 2021.


Proof of Address

To ensure each eXperience student is paid the honorarium, we need the following information:

  • Citizenship designation
  • Summer address starting June 1

Definitions for citizenship designation

  •  Domestic student: Individual who is a citizen of the United States or permanent resident of the United States
  •  International student: Individual who is enrolled for credit at an accredited higher education institution in the United States on a temporary visa

To participate in the NIIMBL eXperience, students must be able to supply one of the following:

 Domestic students

  • State-issued driver's license or identification card from states that are REAL ID compliant or have an extension. See the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) site for the current compliance list. 
  • Valid passport or passport card
  • Military Dependents ID
  • TSA Trusted Traveler ID

International students

  • Valid passport (original only) or alien registration card (green card)
  •  I-94
  • Visa

To process honorarium payments, Social Security numbers and current addresses (effective June 1) will need to be provided.  SS numbers will be collected via a secure link provided to you.


Review Criteria

Please note: Each student will be evaluated on personal essays, resume, and transcripts. Students who are selected for final evaluation will be contacted to participate in a virtual interview. Letters of recommendation are not required /accepted for the NIIMBL eXperience.
