Purpose

The purpose of this program is to connect African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino(a), and Native American students to career possibilities across the biopharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem through tours, hands-on learning, and personal engagement.  The program also aims to catalyze professional growth among participating students, through personal brand development, networking, and mentoring experiences. 


Learning Goals

  • Create an awareness of the different types of jobs and careers within the biopharmaceutical manufacturing space through these week-long experiences
  • Meet employees at different types of organizations and hear “how I got to this job” stories
  • Encourage the students to pursue STEM education that leads to internships and employment in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Exposure to 3+ roles at sites that are critical to the delivery of site goals/products. 3+ sites across the product development lifecycle
  • Each student to develop a personal brand statement (program start/onboarding) and increase competency/practice execution


Eligibility Criteria

  • Students completing freshman or sophomore year in college who are African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino(a), and Native American students with a STEM major
  • Must be a demonstrated leader and be able to express those leadership qualities 
  • Participation is limited to students living within the United States
  • Commitment to sharing your eXperience with your peers


Timeline

Applications must be submitted by 5:00 PM (ET) on January 20, 2023.


Application Requirements

As part of your application to the NIIMBL eXperience program you will need to plan on  submitting:

  • Personal Essays. You will be expected to submit two essays (300-500 words maximum). One essay is focused on your interest and motivation for applying. The second essay is focused on your leadership qualities. 
  • VideoIn addition, as part of your application submission, you will upload a 30-60 second video of yourself explaining what encouraged you to apply for this experience and what motivates you to become a NIIMBL eXperience student.
  • Letter of Recommendation. You will be prompted to provide the name and email address of your recommender as part of your application.
  • Proof of VaccinationAll students are required to have up-to-date COVID-19 vaccinations (primary series plus one booster, when eligible). Vaccine card upload is required.
  • Proof of Address. See Proof of Address section for more details.
  • Photo Release. All applications must upload a signed photo release.  The form can be downloaded here.
  • Resume / Structured Activities List
  • Unofficial Transcripts

Please note: Each student will only be evaluated on personal essays, resume, letter of recommendation, and transcripts.

Proof of Address

To ensure each eXperience student is paid the honorarium, we need the following information:

  • Citizenship designation (domestic, international, and green card)
  • Summer address starting June 1 and July 1

Definitions for citizenship designation

  •  Domestic student: Individual who is a citizen of the United States or permanent resident of the United States
  •  International student: Individual who is enrolled for credit at an accredited higher education institution in the United States on a temporary visa
  • Green card holder: Permanent resident that has been granted authorization to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis 

To participate in the NIIMBL eXperience, students must be able to supply one of the following:

 Domestic students

  • State-issued driver's license or identification card from states that are REAL ID compliant or have an extension. See the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) site for the current compliance list. 
  • Valid passport or passport card
  • Military Dependents ID
  • TSA Trusted Traveler ID

International students

  • Valid passport (original only) or alien registration card (green card)
  •  I-94
  • Visa

To process honorarium payments, Social Security numbers and current addresses (effective June 1) will need to be provided.  SS numbers will be collected via a secure link provided to you.
